Treasured Memories

an interview with Chris Laney

Playing Monday at 11am and on rotation all week.

The Treasured Memories project was focused on capturing the heritage of the Becontree Estate through it's residents. We looked at the changes of the estate over the last century through gathering collective memories, attitudes, feelings and experiences from a group of residents on the buildings of the estate, cultural practices, values and traditions.

The Workshops brought isolated older residents together to socialise, make friends and have fun to create scrapbooks of their memories. We also worked with Sydney Russel School and the Progress Project to include younger residents and a pop-up exhibition will be touring the borough from October.

Oral histories have been captured from participants and will be archived at Valence House Museum.
