The Kingsley Hall Experience: A talk with Director Chris Kapnisis

Kingsley Hall

5 September 2021

Join Chris Kapnisis (Director of Kingsley Hall) as he discusses the incredible past of Kingsley Hall and its exciting future within the community as they set to complete an ambitious refurbishment this year.

In 1929, after being petitioned by residents of the new Becontree Estate, Muriel and Doris Lester, bought land, erected a marquee, parked a caravan for the staff to live in and established Kingsley Hall, Dagenham. The philosophy of the sisters was to support the residents of the largest council estate in Europe, from 'the cradle to the grave’. Today it hosts around 50 different community groups from across the estate and is due to open an ambitious £3.2m three-storey new build extension in late 2021.

The talk will take place at Kingsley Hall and visitors will be met outside the nursery on Parsloes Avenue. There will be two talks taking place on Sunday 5 September from 12.30-1.30pm and 1.30-2.30pm.
