In Our Own Words is a creative exploration into the local history of Barking and Dagenham, placing the collected stories and experiences of participants at the heart of the project. Through discussions, interviews, drama, movement, improvisation and storytelling, Arc Theatre will create an original piece of Verbatim Theatre – a form of documentary theatre made from real people's words and life experiences. Participants will be asked to recall stories, share memories and explore their dreams, hopes and aspirations to provide a full 360-degree perspective of their experiences on the Becontree Estate. In Our Own Words will culminate in an ‘open to all’ public performance and a Q&A with the participants and the Arc Theatre creative team.

Arc Theatre invite you to take part in their free adult workshop sessions. Through discussions, drama, improvisation and storytelling, participants will piece together local stories to be shared at a public performance hosted at Valence Library. Anyone over 18 years old is welcome and no previous acting experience is necessary, just a willingness to connect and meet new people.
